About A Lighthouse
A Lighthouse is the current incarnation of a blog Ariel Beery started back in the early 2000s, when blogger was just becoming a thing.
Over the decades I’ve dedicated my writing to spotlighting challenges facing Israel, the Jewish People, and humanity, and their potential solutions. It is a motivation that drove me to found three mission-driven ventures (PresenTense, MobileODT, CoVelocity). Through my work I have had the privilege to witness the world through the eyes of the people in their greatest need, and there is much, much that needs to be done to serve those people better.
I am a Zionist, from the school of Creative Zionism that formed PresenTense back in 2005. A spiritual child of Ahad Haam and Mordechai Kaplan, of Hashomer Hatzair and Martin Buber. Of Ralph Goldman and Rabbi Jonathan Sacks. And during the 2021 clash between Hamas and the State of Israel I grew frustrated with the debate, and decided to contribute my perspective to the questions facing Israel and Am Israel whose resolution will determine our future.
To separate my personal and professional lives, this substack will focus on the events of the day from a Creative Zionist - an Am Olamist - perspective. It is the heir of my column, A Lighthouse, for the Columbia Spectator back in the early 2000s, of my columns for the Forward, of my work with Aharon Horwitz on Blogs of Zion, of my platform at PresenTense Magazine. While A Lighthouse focuses on Israel and Geopolitics, my Medium will continue to share thoughts about social innovation, entrepreneurship, and public health.
