A request: review my book on Amazon
Your review can help get this book into the hands of those who need it most
I’m so grateful to hear that hundreds of you are reading Being Israeli After the Destruction of Gaza. Your emails, WhatsApp messages, and voice notes have moved me deeply and strengthened my resolve to share the book and its message with the world.
Most of all, I am grateful to hear that the book gave many of you words to explain something that has been hard to express: that recognizing and decrying the destructive actions of our current government does not mean abandoning the Zionist project, and that the right response, the moral response, is to redouble our efforts to build the Israel our children deserve.
Rob Eshman captured it better than I could in his review in The Forward: “Beery’s book is a lifeline, because it proves American Jewish liberal Zionists are not alone – and neither are our Israeli counterparts.”
Yet while hearts have been moved, the algorithm…not so much. Amazon’s algorithm, that is.
Amazon is where most people discover and purchase books. Its recommendation engine is weighted by one metric above all others: reviews. Not press coverage, not Substack readers. Reviews. A book with fifty reviews gets shown to readers searching for exactly this kind of voice. A book with five does not.
So I have a request: if the book helped you, please leave a review on Amazon.
It can be a sentence or a paragraph. Anonymous, or in your name, however you prefer. What matters is that it exists – because each review is a vote that this conversation belongs in front of more people.
To make it easier for those who already ordered the book in paperback, I’ve activated a 7-day Kindle discount. If you haven’t read the book yet, or want to share it with someone who would benefit from it, now is the moment. The Kindle edition is discounted for the next seven days – and the Kindle app, which gives you a shortcut to review, is free on any phone or tablet. And I think this link below should work (supposedly, it only works for the US however):
If you’ve already left a review, thank you. If you’re willing to share this post with one friend who you think needs to hear what Israel’s liberal democrats are actually sayin, I would appreciate that a lot too.
Thank you again for reading - and subscribing to A Lighthouse.
